Glyder Fawr is the highest mountain in the Glyders in Snowdonia, and the fifth highest in Wales. As with the rest of the Glyders, its southern slopes are steep but rounded, and much less interesting than the glacial cwms, llyns and crags of the northern sides. To the north is Cwm Idwal, containing Llyn Idwal. Between Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach to the east is Y Gribin, a rocky ridge with a few easy scrambles. To the north west is Y Garn, in the bwlch between the two is the Devil's Kitchen, the head of Cwm Idwal and home of many opportunities for scrambling and climbing.

Starting points for climbing Glyder Fawr are Pen-y-pass, Gwastadnant, Ogwen Cottage and Capel Curig. Other mountains in the Glyder range may be easily combined with ascents of Glyder Fawr to create longer routes.
