From UMHC Hiking Guide
Pen y Ghent is the most accessible summit from the village of Horton and the Pennine Way ensures that it remains popular. This too has a steep escarpment facing Horton but remains hidden from view at Horton by the lower foothills in the area.
As can be seen above Pen y Ghent's steep sided summit yields a distinctive shape both close up and at a distance.
You would normally expect to find a hill named Pen y Ghent in Wales rather than Yorkshire. This appears to be an historical relic of a time when Celtic tribes rules this area of the country.
