Weekend Trips
Roughly once a month, we run a weekend trip to either North Wales or the Lake District. Places we've been include Cadair Idris, Glenridding, Betws-y-Coed and Ennerdale.
Trip sizes vary between 30-40 people and we stay in youth hostels or outdoor centres. Bedding is usually not provided so sleeping bags may be required, however this can vary between location.
Friday evening we travel in minibuses to the destination.
Saturday evening we all cook our meal together, this is the only food that is included in the price of a ticket.
Sunday morning we clean the hostel and load the vans, then usually a chill hike.

Please bring:
Hiking gear, as you would pack for a day hike with us:
· Hiking boots (with ankle support) – this is essential, we will not let you on the minibus without appropriate footwear.
· Backpack for the day (The weather for the weekend is forecast to be poor, so if you don’t have a waterproof backpack cover then lining your pack with a binbag is a good idea.)
· Water bottle(s) / Thermos flask – Please ensure this is sufficient to carry enough water for a long day of hiking (2L is recommended), preferably a reusable one (or two!)A thermos is also useful in wet/cold weather for coffee/tea/hot chocolate.
· Waterproof Jacket (+Waterproof over Trousers)
· Trousers that are NOT jeans
· Food for Hiking, i.e. something for lunch you can carry with you plus snacks etc.
· Headtorch + Spare Batteries/Spare Torch – A phone torch is not sufficient!
· Extra layers, hats, and gloves– it will be a chilly at times.
· Gaiters (Not a necessity but they make hiking in wet conditions a bit more pleasant)
· If you have a compass and/or a map of the area please bring them with you, but don’t worry if not, we’ll have plenty to go around!
You should bring your own toiletries (the hostel will not provide this.) Below is a starting point, but not necessarily an exhaustive list:
· Toothbrush & toothpaste
· Deodorant
· Shower gel/shampoo
· Towel
The rest you will need:
· Sleeping bag
· Pillow
· Pyjamas
· Any other clothes you would like to wear (Bring at least one replacement set as you might get wet)
· Additional shoes/slippers for in the hut - in case hiking boots get wet plus they are much more comfortable to chill in
· Food (Friday dinner, Saturday and Sunday breakfast and lunch)
· Money (it doesn't hurt to carry a little cash for pubs or cafes - there is a little pub next to the hostel)
Optional extras:
· Earplugs – a godsend if you’re a light sleeper or if you're unlucky to be in a room with a snorer!!
· Something to drink in the evening and games – we often enjoy a beer (definitely more than one) on Saturday night and some card games etc.
Boots - You MUST wear Hiking boots that have sufficient ankle support - we don't allow approach shoes! If you have any doubts send us a message. Also, as a rule of thumb, most shoes made by fashion brands such as Dr. Martens will not be permitted.
Trousers - Walking trousers do NOT include jeans and, if you wear jeans, we will not let you on the coach. Leggings, and light, fast drying trousers are all encouraged.
Waterproofs - A waterproof jacket is a must. We go on hikes even if it's raining. If you have waterproof trousers, we strongly recommend bringing those along as well - water resistant and water repellent do NOT mean waterproof. Your puffer or down jacket is NOT waterproof. Bring a hard shell!
Packed Lunch and Water - You MUST pack sufficient water and food to sustain you for a full day in the hills (2 litres are recommended). ALWAYS bring more than you think you will need. This is essential!
Hat and Gloves - We strongly recommend that you always bring hat and gloves. The weather can shift quickly, and you may feel unexpectedly cold.
Headtorch - you MUST bring a headtorch. We may end up finishing a hike in the dark. Therefore, bringing a headtorch is a necessity.
Spare Layers - Always bring some spare layers. It is nice to put on an extra layer when we stop for lunch or put on dry clothes after a long day out. Make sure you keep these in a dry bag or in a plastic bag. If you get wet, you will get cold, so these are essential.
